Grammy Award-winning rapper Nelly, who rose to fame in the early 2000s with hits like “Hot in Herre,” was arrested on Saturday in Putnam County, Tennessee.
The arrest took place when state troopers stopped the 40-year-old artist’s tour bus at 9:20 PM, having noticed a smell of marijuana emanating from the vehicle, according to the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security.
On the bus, the authorities reportedly found drugs including methamphetamine and marijuana. It’s reported that they also found weapons, including a gold-plated 50-caliber Desert Eagle pistol, a 45-caliber Taurus pistol, and a 500 magnum Smith and Wesson.
One passenger on the bus with a previous criminal record, a Mr. Brian Jones of St. Louis, was arrested on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a handgun.
Nelly (a.k.a Cornell Haynes) was booked at Putnam County Jail and later released on $10,000 bail.
