game-of-thrones-Ned-StarkThe HBO series Game Of Thrones has millions of devoted fans around the world. They got a big surprise when episodes of the shows new season, set to premier on April 12th, were leaked online a day ahead of the official release.

Apparently, the show’s first four episodes were released to members of the international press on a DVD, for review purposes. The leaked, watermarked, episodes most likely originated with one of those DVDs.

This comes in the wake of the show’s fifth season trailer having been leaked in January of this year. Game of Thrones is the most illegally downloaded and screened show in the internet, three years in a row. This has led HBO to try a variety of methods to combat the piracy problem, including simulcast broadcasting and testing the “HBO Now” service, independent of any cable service. HBO has not officially commented on the latest incident.
