The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have revealed to the world the newest addition to the royal family at 6:12 p.m. local time on the steps of London’s St. Mary’s Hospital.
The couple’s second child, a baby girl, was born on Saturday, May 2.
The duke and duchess displayed their sleeping newborn daughter, for a few minutes, to crowds of fans and photographers who had gathered at the hospital during previous days and weeks in anticipation of the birth. This was the exact same spot where Princess Diana and Prince Charles presented both princes William and Harry when they were born, years ago.
Later on in the day, William brought the couple’s young son, Prince George, to meet his new sister at the hospital.
A statement released by Kensington Palace announced, “The baby weighs 8 lbs., 3 oz. The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth.”
The young princess is fourth in line to the British throne, pushing her uncle, Prince Harry into the fifth position.
