It’s official. Jon Stewart has just announced that his final appearance on The Daily Show will be on August 6, 2015, less than four months from now. Many fans have expressed sadness at the departure of the man who made the show famous and popular, even inspiring several imitations shows around the world, in countries as unlikely as Egypt.
Stewart joked about the fact that the details of the last episode are still not finalized, “I will be wearing a suit. I will more than likely be showered,” he said, and then jokingly retracted, “I’m sorry, I’ll be wearing overalls and I won’t shower.”
There is no official date for Stewart’s replacement, South African comedian and previous Daily Show contributor Trevor Noah’s first day on the job. Noah has proven to be a somewhat controversial choice given his various comments about Jews and women. In response to criticism of several appallingly antisemitic and sexist tweets, Noah wrote on Twitter in March: “To reduce my views to a handful of jokes that didn’t land is not a true reflection of my character, nor my evolution as a comedian.”
Stewart will undoubtedly be sorely missed by his fans.
